Between approximately 2004 and 2007, during the construction boom and rebuilding from the series of Gulf Coast storms including Hurricane Katrina, United States companies imported large quantities of drywall from China. Since 2006, more than 550 million pounds of drywall have been imported into the United States through ports in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York and New Jersey. In early 2009, it was reported that homes constructed in Florida had experienced uncharacteristically high problems with their HVAC units. It then was reported that the homes had been constructed with drywall which had been imported from China which had abnormally high sulfur levels. According to the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission, home owners in eighteen states and the District of Columbia have reported their experience with negative health symptoms or the corrosion of certain metal components in their homes which are believed to be related to the presence of drywall produced in China. The states most affected with defective Chinese drywall are Florida, Alabama, Arizona, California, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and the District of Columbia.

Arthur Edge III, P.C. currently is investigating home owners’ claims and is working with a nationwide group of law firms representing home owners in claims against the manufacturers, suppliers and installers of the defective Chinese drywall.
